I always knew Brooklyn came from Breukelen, a Dutch city. And I knew that Manhattan used to be called New Amsterdam. I’m sure I was taught much more in history class but I only remember those 2 things about New York. The Dutch travelled all over the world to trade and while they were at it they colonised the spots as well. Examples are Indonesia, the Dutch Antilles, Surinam, South Africa.
I didn’t know Flushing comes from Vlissingen, another city in Holland. That the Bronx comes from a Dutch sea-captain named Jonas Bronck. That the origin of the word Yankee, used to refer to Americans, is Jan Kees. The most common of Dutch men’s names.
Found this cool video on the nextweb. A great idea, cause we all want it.
TipSpot started from a simple question: “Why oh why isn’t there a simple overview of what’s happening in town, based on the interests of me and my friends?”
I checked out the video and found out this has to be a Dutch company (the flyers). I browsed the Team & Partners section and there you have it. Shout out to Julien and Pascal! That’s how you know Holland is small!
Check out the video which reminds me a lot of the useful videos made by commoncraft.
Jak & Jil becoming or maybe already is my favourite blog. He took the original pic.
“NEVER DID I EVER IMAGINE THAT ONE OF PHOTOS WOULD BE ANIMATED ON SOUTH PARK. I AM AT A TOTAL LOSS OF WORDS. THIS IS TOO GOOD. ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT KANYE IS TRULY A GOOD SPORT AND CAN LAUGH AT HIMSELF TOO SOMETIMES. CAPTURING THIS MOMENT OUTSIDE COMME DES GARCONS SHOW IN PARIS WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF MY FAVORITE FASHION WEEK MOMENTS.”
